Installing Hyper-V Server 2012 to iSCSI Remote Boot LUN

This entry is part 4 of 10 in the series Binsfeldius Cluster (HV2012)

I’m reusing the separate iSCSI targets with associated mapped LUN’s for each node, so:

node 1 iSCSI initiator: n1bc –> iSCSI target: ttgbootn1
node 2 iSCSI initiator: n2bc –> iSCSI target: ttgbootn2
node 3 iSCSI initiator: n3bc –> iSCSI target: ttgbootn3

I’ve burned the Hyper-V Server 2012 iso to a disc and hooked it up the the first node via an external LaCie drive. The following screens show the new startup logo, language-time-keyboard questions and now we’re ready to hit the install button

If you agree with the license terms, click accept (otherwise it’ll be a very very short experience 😉 ) and on the next screen select the bottom option: custom.

This will show the drive selection screen. As you can see I have the original 50 Gb drive LUN of the old installation still there. Select the drive partition and click on drive options. Then click delete to remove that drive partition and turn it into unallocated space.

Now, just select the new unallocated space line and click next to start the installation. Something I didn’t know, you actually do not need to click new and create a new partition first. The installer does this for you automagically! (thx Joop).

Just let the installer run its course…

Change the Administrator password

… when it’s done, the following screen appears requesting to change the administrator’s password.

The familiar sconfig screen comes up and the last step in this post is to give the node it’s name. This is done by selecting option 2:
